Coyotes
Coyotes
As per the Pest and Nuisance Control Regulation, an owner or occupant of land may control a nuisance on that land by any means that are generally considered to be sound husbandry practices that apply with applicable laws. If a coyote is predating your livestock, you are able to control coyotes on your land.
In addition, the Pest and Nuisance Control Regulation allows landholders and others authorized by them, to destroy coyotes on land which the landholder owns or controls by:
- Shooting coyotes
- Use of authorized toxicant under the requirement of the Agricultural Pests Act and Pest Control Products Act Canada
- Use of approved neck snares in compliance with the Agricultural Pests Act
Landholders who wish to trap coyotes or authorize someone else to trap coyotes on their property should inquire at the local Fish and Wildlife office for further information. For questions regarding coyote control options, contact [email protected].
If you see a coyote that looks sick or injured, or is acting aggressively towards humans, contact Fish and Wildlife through the report a Poacher Hotline at 1-800-642-3800.
