Roads Maintenance
Starland County aims to provide a safe and efficient road network for residents, businesses, and visitors. To support this, the County provides the following services:
Grading
Starland County road graders operate Monday to Friday to maintain smooth, well‑drained gravel road surfaces. The County is divided into five grader divisions, each maintained by a single grader.
Dust Control
Starland County follows a Dust Control Policy for treating gravel roads. If you have questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 403‑772‑3793. FYI: Dust Control (Suppression) For Residential Sites Policy
Road Gravelling
The County operates a five‑year gravel program. The goal is to gravel approximately one‑fifth of the gravel road network each year. Road gravelling occurs from spring through fall, and the program may be adjusted to address problem areas as they arise.
Roadside Mowing
Roadside mowing begins in the summer and continues into the fall. Depending on weather conditions, all main County roads will receive one to two cuts each year. For more information, please contact the Public Works Department using the numbers listed in the Contacts section of this website.
Winter Roads Maintenance
Winter road maintenance focuses on keeping roads drivable during snow and ice conditions. County operations such as plowing, sanding, and salting are carried out as weather requires. County plow trucks and graders are dispatched after every snowfall and plow roads on a priority basis. Sand and salt are applied to County roads to improve traction and help melt snow and ice.
Starland County also offers lane‑way clearing services for a fixed fee. For more information, please contact the Public Works Department listed in the Public Works Contacts section of this website.
Snow Plow Agreements (Private Property)
Starland County provides private snowplowing services for laneways and for access to grain bins and similar locations. These services are provided in conjunction with regular municipal snow removal and will not interfere with the normal supply of services and maintenance to the municipality at large.
Before any snow removal is performed on private land, the landowner (or renter with a lease agreement) must complete a Snowplow Agreement and file it at the municipal office.
Fees for Landowners
• Lane‑way snow removal: minimum charge of $75.00 per visit.
• Other private snow removal beyond lane‑ways: $170.00 per hour, with a one‑hour minimum.
Additional work will only be completed if, in the grader operator’s opinion, it does not interfere with normal snow removal operations on municipal roads.
Fees and Deposits for Renters
• Renters requiring lane‑way snow removal must provide a $150.00 deposit when the agreement is signed.
• This deposit is applied to future services provided to the renter.
• If the full deposit is used, an additional $150.00 deposit is required for snow removal services to continue.
Application Forms. The following application forms can be downloaded below and submitted at the main administration office in Morrin:
